PBNU will not facilitate establishment of new political party

General Chairman of the Lawmaking Body of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Sahal Mahfudz asserted that the country’s largest Muslim organization will not facilitate the establishment of a new political party. He made the statement following the willingness of a number of ulemas to take up issues on practical politics on the sidelines of the NU National Assembly and Major Conference in Surabaya on Thursday (27/7).
“There are some willing to establish a new political party, but there are also some disapproving,” said the General Chairman of the PBNU KH Hasyim Muzadi in the forum.
Hasyim said the emerging issues dealing with the establishment of a new political party was just within the scope of sharing ideas and was not scheduled specially. “It’s just a sharing,” he said.
In the meantime, Chairman of the Lawmaking Body of PBNU KH Ma’ruf Amin also said that the PBNU again would not facilitate the establishment of a new political party though he did not prohibit those whose willingness to establish it.
“If there are some willing to establish a new party, it’s ok, but PBNU will not facilitate it,” kiai Ma’ruf said.
More than 200 ulemas of NU attended the forum such as KH Abdurrahman Chudlori, KH. Idris Marzuki (Lirboyo Kediri),KH Abdullah Faqih (Langitan Tuban), KH Warsun Munawwir (Krapyak Yogyakarta), KH Muhaiminan Gunardo (Parakan Temanggung Central Java), KH Sholeh Qosim (Sidoarjo), KH Zainuddin Jazuli (Ploso Kediri), KH Anwar Iskandar (Jamsaren Kediri), KH Mas Subadar (Pasuruan), KH Muchit Muzadi (Jember), KH Tholcha Hasan (Malang), KH Masduki Mahfud (Chairman East Java's NU Advisory Counci), KH Jusuf Hasyim (Pak Ud), Tebuireng Jombang and so on.
