Religious Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali said that the government could not evenly distribute the additional haj quota of 10,000 pilgrims to all provinces in the country.<>
“Traditionally, the additional quota is given to provinces which send haj pilgrims over the age of 80,” Suryadharma said as quoted by Antara.
The minister also said that the government would ask for a higher quota from the Saudi Arabian government so that more pilgrims from the country could travel to the Holy Land.
“However, the final decision will be made by the Saudi Arabian government, which has the sole authority to make the decision,” he said.
