Tomorrow, Hasyim will receive honorary degree

General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi would reportedly receive an honorary degree of Doctor Honoris Causa from the State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Sunan Ampel Surabaya on account of his views in the course of Islamic civilization especially in realizing world peace on tomorrow Saturday (2/12) morning.

A contributor of NU Online M Subhan reported on Friday the much-awaited special day would be attended by distinguished figures such as Jusuf Kalla (Indonesian Vice President), Agung Laksono (House Speaker), Hidayat Nurwahid (Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly),  and Ginanjar Kartasasmita (chairman of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD).

Former President of Indonesia Megawati, Former House Speaker Akbar Tanjung, and Former Indonesian National Army Chief of Staff, General (retired) Ryamizard Ryacudu whose a very close relationship with Hasyim would also attend the ceremony, including scores of NU prominent men, leaders of political parties and others.

"God willing (Insya Allah) KH Abdullah Faqih will also come,” said H Helmi M Noor, the Director of Cita Entertain, an event organizer of the ceremony. “Including other 50 non-structural clerics.”

Meanwhile, General Chairman of the East Java’s NU Dr H Ali Maschan Moesa Msi welcomed the planned award conferred upon the leader of the Islamic boarding school Al Hikam Malang.

According to Maschan, it’s a good time to award the honorary degree to Hasyim due to his wide interesting in religious thoughts. “Because, his religious views are the same as Strata-3 degree,” he said.

The leader of the Islamic boarding school Al Husna added his services within the developments of human were on such a scale. Wherever he went, he said, he always voiced Islam as rahmatan lil alamin (blessing for the universe) protecting all peoples regardless of their backgrounds. (sbh)
