The leader of Raudlatut Thalibin Islamic baording schhol (pesantren), Rembang, Central Java, KH Ahmad Mustofa Bisri, popularly knownGus Mus said, everyone did agree that the Qur'an guides the lives of Muslims in the world.

"All Muslims will say the guidance of their life is the Qur'an," Gus Mus said in a video uploaded by Gusmus Channel account on Youtube on Thursday (19/4).

According to Gus Mus, it is absolutely contradictory if those who consider the Qur'an as a guide to life but they do not read it let alone practice it.

He said, in this era there has been no research or survey raising some questions about Indonesian Muslims and the Qur'an. Starting from the question how many Indonesian Muslims have read the Qur'an. Then, another question how many percent of Indonesian Muslims did understand the meaning of the Qur'an.

"Then the next (question), of the many who understand the meaning of the Qur'an. What percentage of those who have practiced the Qur'an," the NU prominent ulema said.

For Gus Mus, if such research or survey is done, then the results could be a solution to various problems facing Indonesia.

"Why? Because in this country the population is (predominantly) Muslims," he said.

"If we see the results, it turns out that those who read the Qur'an are considerably low. Oh, it is understandable. Those who could understand its meanings are also low. It is understandable. (While) Those who practice the Qur'an are nothing," he added.

Gus Mus was of the opinion the results of research or survey could be used as material to improve many systems in Indonesia, ranging from the education system of Indonesia to matters relating to the life of Muslims themselves.

"I hope there will be a survey (showing the ability of Indonesian Muslims in dealing with the Qur'an)," Gus Mus closed. (Muchlishon/Masdar)
