NU could be driving force for agricultural community

Rector of the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) Arif Satria said that Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) could be a driving force among the agricultural community, either in Java or outside Java.

"I think this is a very important area for all of us to develop," he said at a national seminar organized by the Student Family of Nahdlatul Ulama (KMNU) in collaboration with the Department of Islamic Economics of IPB at the CCR Auditorium, IPB, Bogor, West Java, on Friday (19/1).

With the enormous potential of NU, Arif said that NU had the power to build agriculture. According to him, it is the time for NU to build agricultural sector as well as build people and its own members in ultimately contributing to the nation.

The man who once held the youngest Dean in the leading educational institution expected the cooperation between IPB and NU in the future to be stronger with various favorable approaches.

On the occasion, the man who was born in Pekalongan, Central Java, reiterated that IPB planned to open several special lanes for santri (pesantren students). According to him, pesantren having the power of faith and piety will increasingly be complete if its santri are also capable of mastering the science and technology.

"So it could be an extraordinary equipment," he said in a seminar which is a series of the 4th National Conference of KMNU in Bogor.

In the forum was attended by the general chairman of NU KH Said Aqil Siroj and three speakers, namely Professor of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Gajah Mada University H Mochammad Maksum Machfoedz, Director of PT Bank Syariah Mandiri, and Chief Executive Officer of Pancasila Ideology Development Division Yudi Latif.
