Member of the Advisory Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) KH M. Tholhah Hasan said that the Indonesian people, including Nahdliyin (NU followers) had moral responsibility to the Unitary State of Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

"It should be understood by Indonesian people in general and Nahdliyin in particular as part of realizing their religious teachings and noble values within the context of nationality,"Kiai Tholhah told NU Online here on Thursday (27/10).

According to the former Minister of Religious Affairs, as a consequence of accepting the universality of faith or the so-called as taáddudu al-ammah by Muslim scholars and theoreticians of affairs of state in the past, Muslim must reconcile with the existence of nation-state.

"We can see than in many countries, the government administration has exposed the concentration of power within a handful of political elites who are highly exclusive at the expense of the people," he said, adding that efforts to defend the rights of the powerless tend to meet with failure.

"Even the sovereignty of law  is indeed powerless before political, economic and cultural powers that grip the whole world," he said.

On this stand, Kiai Tholhah called for the importance of Muslims to know their moral responsibility to help overcome the crisi of humanity. (Masdar)
