Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) has a firm measure in fighting against those willing to change the state ideology, Pancasila. For the Indonesia's largest muslim organization, implementing the values of Pancasila in life is the same as implementing the values of religious teachings (shari'ah) since Pancasila bases itself on the divine principles.

Related to a group still propagating the khilafah discourse, Secretary General of NU, Helmy Faishal Zaini, explained  that in Indonesia, the spirit of religion had been embodied or manifested in various regulations and legislations.

According to Helmy, the breath and spirit of legislation in Indonesian society are inspired from the religious teachings and values.

"Say that the Religious Judicature Law, Compilation of Islamic Law, Zakat Management Law and Zakat Administration Act," said Helmy Faishal in his opinion in Kompas Daily on Friday (2/6/2017) titled Pancasila State and Khilafah.

Implementing such laws was substantively the same as implementing the Islamic laws (shari'ah), he said, adding that, "in other words, we have actually implemented sharia and do not have to formalize it in a khilafah."

He was of the opinion that the basis of the Indonesian state with the Belief in One God implied Indonesia does not separate the relationship between religion and power. Power must be based on the foundation and spirit of religious values.

Related to the Khilafah widely voiced by Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI), which was in early May 2017 disbanded by the government, some 13 Islamic organizations belonging to Lembaga Persahabatan Ormas Islam (LPOI) have strongly supported the dissolution of the organization.

The 13 Islamic mass organizations are Nahdlatul Ulama, Persatuan Islam, Al-Irsyad Al-Islamiyah, Mathlaul Anwar, Ittihadiyah, Persatuan Islam Tionghoa Indonesia (PITI), Ikadi, Azzikra, Syarikat Islam Indonesia, Al-Washliyah, Persatuan Tarbiyah Islamiyah, Persatuan Ummat Islam, and HBMI.

The statement of the mass organizations was made by LPOI General Secretary Lutfi A. Tamimi accompanied by General Chairman of LPOI KH Said Aqil Siroj and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Wiranto and Chairman of DPD RI Osman Sapta Odang.

In addition to supporting the dissolution of HTI, LPOI was also committed to maintaining the integrity of the Unitary State of Republic of Indonesia and supporting the President of Indonesia Joko Widodo, dealing with drug abuses and terrorism. (Fathoni/Masdar)
