Secretary general to modernize NU management

Secretary General of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) H Helmy Faisal Zaini said that he would try to make organizational improvements within the body of the country's largest Muslim organization by, among others, integrating and developing database of various NU archives.

He explained that a pattern having been running well in private companies could be emulated in the religious and social organization. If one needs the so-called qonun asasi of NU, digitized files allow a possible search in minutes or even seconds. Currently, the management of archiving that is still traditional will take longer.

"Later with the information system model, we will develop public services. On the ground floor of the NU building, God willing we will provide a touch screen  display, consisting of a map of Indonesia, NU boards ranging from the village to the regional levels along with their all potential," he said.

If there were people who need the data of NU, they could directly access the computer and find what they need. If there were guests here that would like to know an NU hospital in Aceh for example, they could directly access it whether it has already existed or not, he said.

This system will be such a living information that is continually updated and is open to the public. This is important because NU is the organization of ummah which should be transparent and open to the public. People could also perform control to prevent possible abuses in the name of NU.

"Who knows this step could be something meaningful in the future. When we meet with many partners, we will deliver it," he said, adding that the NU database would provide all NU potentials.

"The system is like in the mall, in every bathroom in the NU building, there will be a check list, how many times is it cleaned a day. We start from small beginnings. Small is beautiful. So when people come here, they will say, well, the bathroom is clean, fragrant. It is Islamic, is not it" he said. (masdar)
