STAINU proposed to be university

Nahdlatul Ulama College of Islamic studies (STAINU) Jakarta has been proposed to be the Nahdlatul Ulama University (UNU) following a meeting held at the NU headquarters here on Friday (15/11).<>

All prerequisities of the much-awaited status proposed by the STAINU has been evaluated by the Ministry of Education and Culture.

In the meeting attended by the STAINU institutional development teams and officials of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), instead of becoming an institute, the STAINU was directly proposed to become a university.

Chairman of the Jakarta's STAINU KH Mujib Qulyubi said that the high school for Islamic studies had long been established and eligible enough to promote itself as an outstanding university.

"There is no other choice (related to the name change from STAINU to UNU)," said Deputy Secretary General of NU Hanif Saha Ghafur.

In the meeting, STAINU Jakarta proposed 15 study programs following the name change to become a university, 11 ones are in the field of social studies and 4 others are in the field of science. 

Under applicable regulations, the minimum requirements to establish a university must have a minimum of 10 study programs, 6 in the field of exact sciences (IPA) and 4 in the field of social sciences (IPS).

The 15 programs are, among others, information system, information technology, public health, law, psychology, sociology, management, accounting, early childhood teacher education (PG PAUD), education management, mathematics education, English education, Islamic education, Islamic banking, and ahwalus syakhsiyah (Islamic Family Law).

Several programs have already been approved, but there have been some that still need to be further processed in accordance with the conditions set by the Ministry of Education and Culture.
