Ahmad Syauqi-Margaret named as IPNU/IPPNU leaders

Through a tough meeting, the Congress of NU Student Association (IPNU) and NU Female Student Association (IPPNU) at Pesantren Benda, Sirampog, Brebes, Central Java, finally named Ahmad Syauqi and Margaret as chairman and chairwoman of the NU student organizations for the period 2009-2012.

Ahmad Shauqi defeated his opponent Moh Asyhadi while Margaret defeated her most powerful conpetitor Rd Dwi Supratiwi.

The meeting was very tight especially in taking up such chapters related to the minimum vote to be nominee. Initially, the forum decided the nominee should at least secure 50 votes, but it finally decided that he/she should at least gain 99 votes. Through the decision, Ahmad Shauqi was the only man elected through a vote count.
 
In the congress, Ahmad Syauqi secured 220 votes and his competitor Asyhadi secured 160. "I offer many thanks for the support of friends of mine," Ahmad Shauqi said.

The former deputy chairman of IPNU would be committed to strengthen organization, cadre recruitment and pay more attention to regions outside Java.

"In any national-level ceremonial program, we will hold it in regions outside Java," Ahmad Shauqi who is also vice secretary of the East Java's IPNU said.

In terms of the allegedly money politics, he strongly denied involving himself in the embarrased attitude during the process of determining a new chairman. "That was absolutely incorrect and IPNU did not do the very naive things."

The urgent task which sould immediately be completed, as for Ahmad Syauqi, was the need of oranizing cadres following the regional elections and ahead of the presidential election.

While Margaret (30) was elected as chairwoman of IPPNU following her victory over Rr Dwi Supratiwi (28) in which Margaret (East Java) secured 188 votes while her competitor only gained 58 votes and other remaining 14 were abstain. (was/rif/zis)
