The existence of the Ahmadiyah sect in Indonesia will cease to pose a problem if its adherents are prepared to declare their faith as not being part of Islam, former National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) chief Muladi said.
"It (Ahmadiyah - ed.) should become another religion, one outside Islam," Muladi said here Thursday after the swearing-in ceremony of Budi Susilo Soepandji, his successor as the new governor of Lemhannas.r />
"If Ahmadiyah is disbanded, it could become a human rights violation. Unless if Ahmadiyah had violated SKB (the decree) of three ministers, the government could sanction it in accordance with the law," he said.
"But if not, Ahmadiyah should declare that it is not part of Islam, or be declared as being outside Islam," Muladi stated.
Meanwhile, presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono would not react to a threat made by a certain mass organization concerning Ahmadiyah.
"We will follow the activities of the existing mass organization. There is no response or comment directly (from the president - ed.)," Julian Pasha said at the presidential palace.
The country has already had a set of regulations on mass organizations and any actions must be in line with the existing regulations, namely the Law No. 8/1985 and the government regulation (PP) 2006, according to him.
If any mass organizations make actions or statements violating the regulations, the security authorities will follow them up in line with the laws, he said. (ant/dar)
