Ali Maschan Moesa announces candidacy bid for NU chairmanship

Former Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) East Java head Ali Maschan Moesa on Sunday announced his bid to chair the organization, competing with other six contenders.
During a press conference in Surabaya on Sunday, Ali said he would make limits to NU’s participation in politics to prevent the organization from getting carried away with political matters.<>
“I have gained support from most members outside Java and those in East Java. I have yet to seek support from those in West Nusa Tenggara,” Ali said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
NU is scheduled to hold its 32nd congress, in Makassar, South Sulawesi, in March.
There other six candidates are KH Sholahudin Wahid, KH Said Agil Siradj, KH Masdar F. Mas'udi, Ullil Absor Abdalla, H. Ahmad Bagdja and Slamet Effendi Yusuf. (jp/dar)
