Arab foreign ministers Wednesday condemned the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip, and said an assessment of the situation would be made at the Arab summit in Syria on March 29.
A final communicate issued by Wednesday’s Arab League meeting in Cairo said the 18 ministers prepared a full evaluation of the situation in Gaza, describing continuous Israeli attacks on the Palestinians as "war crimes against all humanity".
<>Arab League Secretary General Amr Mussa called on all the Palestinian factions to close ranks and achieve national unity in order to overcome their difficulties.
He said Arabs had done everything they could to end the conflict, asserting that the only solution would lie in achieving Arab unity.
The ministers berated Israel for failing to provide proper reaction to their peace initiative, blaming the issue on the Security Council and urging it to react to protect the Palestinians.
"The Arab Peace initiative should not stand still without an Israeli response or implementation," read the statement.
The Arab peace initiative was adopted in Beirut in 2002 and signed by all members of the Arab League as a proposed solution to ending the Arab-Israeli conflict. (ant/too)
