For the very first time, the Indonesian government in association with the Saudi government will hold an Asean Musabaqah Hifdzil Quran wal Hadis/MHQH (Memorizing Quran and Hadis competition).
To last from July 21 through 23, the event will be held at the Pondok Gede Hajj Dormitory in East Jakarta. Antara reported.<>
"This event will be held periodically," Islamic Mass Guidance Director General at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Prof Dr Nasaruddin Umar MA, said in his press release in Jakarta on Friday.
Compared to similar events, Nasaruddin, flanked by Religious Affairs Attache at the Saudi Embassy Ibrahim Al Nughaimsyi, said that this time the event will not only involve the Quran, but hadis (records of the words and deeds of Prophet Muhammad) as well.
Ibrahim Al Nughaimsyi said that the MHQH is specifically an Indonesian event, because Indonesia is both the organizer and host. He hoped this event would be an annual affair, and would some day also be open to Arab and non-Arab participation. (dar)
