The Ansor Paramilitary Wing of Brebes, Central Java has filed a formal protest to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to immediately disband the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI).
Chairman of Coordination Unit of Brebes Banser, K. Agus Mudrik, said the protest was filed following violent actions committed by the FPI's activists against the National Alliance for Freedom of Religion and Faith (AKKBB) rally at the National Monument (Monas) square on Sunday (1/6).<>
Agus strongly condemned the violent actions that he considered to have damaged the image of Islam as a peace-loving religion.
He said that Islam calling for peace and blessing for the universe had been insulted, Agus said at the Brebes NU Branch Board, Jalan Yos Sudarno, Brebes on Wednesday (3/6). The NU Online's Wasdiun reported.
Agus expected security officials to stand firm and probe the Sunday's incidents including the actions commited by the FPI since its establishment in the country.
The filed protest was also sent to the National Police Chief, Minister of Home Affairs, Supreme Prosecutor and Supreme Court.
Agus said the Brebes Banser had now expected those involving themselves in the FPI to "escape" from the Habib Riziq-led hard line group. (rif)
