Early prevention important to maintain harmony: religious minister

Religious Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali said an early prevention system was badly needed to maintain harmony in the community's life by promoting the role of the Religious Community Harmony Forum or FKUB.
The minister in his speech before a number of religious figures here on Tuesday said that interfaith harmony issue should not be neglected because today the easiest way to disrupt life in the community is through religious channels.r />
"Because, religions with all their symbols and attributes are very sensitive when they are deemed contrary from their followers," he asked.
the minister said, citing example when drawing the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) as an expression of freedom, then the Islamic adherents would be angry.
Thus, Suryadharma Ali expressed hope that the FKUB takes initiative to promote its role and hold dialog to provide an understanding so that harmony among religious believers can be continuously maintained.
In responding to the expectation of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT)'s head of religious affairs office, Suryadharma Ali said he will be present at the Okumune Easter celebration here on April 28.
The minister also explained that religious community, certainly have differences, diverse cultures and value systems.
He also hoped that the differences should not be contested, and diversity should be considered as a strength instead of weakness. (ant/dar)
