Egypt agrees to host new round of Palestinian talks: official

Egypt has agreed to host another round of talks between rival Palestinian factions ahead of declaring a national reconciliation, a Palestinian official said Saturday.
Eyad al-Sarraj, a member of Palestinian independents' delegation to Cairo dialogue, said Egypt has agreed to invite Islamic Hamas movement and President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party to talk.<>
Egypt's intelligence chief Omar Suleiman "had told us that he would invite Hamas, Fatah and leaders of factions to an urgent meeting to discuss the understandings our delegations have reached," al-Sarraj said in a statement.
In September, Egypt presented a reconciliation proposal to the Palestinian factions, but Hamas refused to accept the initiative.
There was confirmation from Egypt about the possible invitation of the Palestinian factions to another dialogue session, as Cairo had made it clear that it will not put its proposal to any changes or amendments.
Hamas, which seized Gaza from pro-Abbas forces in 2007, said Egypt should consider its reservations on the proposal which aims at restoring political unity to Gaza and the Fatah-ruled West Bank. (dar)
