The mushrooming of transnational ideas in Indonesia has met public concern especially from ulema circles. In bogor for instance, the ulema circles have considered that the transnational ideas would not appropriate to the country's Islamic cultural root which commonly adopts the teachings of what called as Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah (Aswaja).
The statements were raised at a Halal bi Halal and ulema meeting held in Pilar, Bubulak village, Bogor Barat subdistrict, Bogor regency on Tuesday (7/10).<>
The meeting was attended by tens of ulema (clerics) across Bogor city such as Habib Ahmad Fahmi al Aydrus who is also the leader of Al Adni Majlis Taklim (religious gathering) of Ciawi, Bogor, KH Asep Abdul Wadud, the popular preacher in Bogor. KH Ahmad Miftahuddin, the leader of Arfah Islamic boarding school, KH Yusuf Syafi'i, chairman of Bogor's NU law making body, and so on.
Present also on the occasion was ex-regional secretary of Bogor city who is also the candidate of municipal of Bogor H Dody Rosadi and thousands of Islamic circles from pesantren and many other religious gatherings throughout Bogor.
Habib Fahmi said that the transnational ideals with their all styles had so far developed in Indonesia. The ideas could be in form of Islam fundamentalism, Wahabism, Liberalism and so forth.
The charismatic figure was of view that the ideas were not appropriate to Islamic legacies in Bogor and many other regions in the country which predominantly adopt the teachings of Aswaja having so far be both defended and preserved by the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama.
For that reason, he added, the Aswaja should be strengthened and preserved in countering the transnational "movements".
In this regard, the religious rituals like the commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Isra' Mi'raj should be preserved for all this has rooted from Indonesian Islamic culture.
"The traditions having so far been developed by ulema of the Aswaja have been capable of disseminating Islam(ic values and teachings) peacefully. By strengthening the traditions, we can counter the transnational movements," he said. (hir)
