Jakarta, NU Online
A room at the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) headquarters, where the late president Aburrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid once worked, has been turned into a space exhibiting his belongings.
The room, now called the Gus Dur Corner, was inaugurated on Sunday in the presence of Gus Dur's four daughters, his fans and NU chairman Said Aqil Siroj.
“We vow to keep Gus Dur's teachings, principles and ideas alive through this corner," Gus Dur's daughter Inayah said as reported by kompas.com.
The corner, measuring 20 meters, showcases a collection of books, audio books,
photographs, musical CDs, cassettes, and books previously owned by Gus Dur.
Inayah added that she hoped it would inspire others to follow in Gus Dur's footsteps.
Gus Dur served as the fourth president, from 1999 to 2001. He was replaced by his vice president, Megawati Soekarnoputri, after the House of Representatives impeached him. His was famous for comparing lawmakers with kindergarten children. (jp/dar)
