IKA PMII hopes NU chairman from its cadre

The Alumni Association of the Indonesian Muslim Student Movement (IKA PMII) has expected the position of general chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) to be held by cadres whose organizational background from PMII.
"General chairman of IKA PMII should instruct the PMII alumni serving as chairmen in regional and branch board levels to nominate a candidate who is from PMII," Effendi Choirie said at a fasting break in Jakarta over the weekend.<>
The expectation is apparently not difficult to meet because most prospective candidates are the PMII alumni such as KH Said Agil Siradj, KH Masdar F Mas’udi, H Ahmad Bagdja, Slamet Effendi Yusuf, and so on.
While other candidate whose different organizational background is Muhammad Nuh who is now minister of communication and information as and was active in the Islamic Student Association (HMI) during his time of study.
Culturally, PMII has been an organization for NU students and had formerly been one of NU autonomous bodies. Not surprisingly, till now there have been many PMII cadres who are still active as NU board members in any NU board level. (mkf)
