IKAPMII expected to help reconcile PKB's internal conflict

The organization of alumni of Indonesian Muslim Student Movement (PMII) or Family Gathering Association of the PMII (IKAPMII) was expected to help reconcile internal conflict in the dueling National Awakening Party (PKB).
 
To meet the much-awaited reconciliation, the IKAPMII included two names having so far been in concfilct in the political party, namely Muhaimin Iskandar and ALi Masykur Musa in its Advisory Council.<>

"I expect each camp (in the PKB) to end and reduce its tension," the newly elected chairman of the IKAPMII, Arif Mudatsir Mandan told reporters at the Jakarta's Pulau Dua Reastaurant on Sunday (25/5).

Arif who was on last Saturday appointed as chairman of the IKAPMII expressed his conviction there would be such reconciliation of the two opposing camps. He made sure the reconciliation would come true following the similar meeting of the PMII's alumni at the Santika Hotel, Jakarta several days ago.

Arif who is also chairman of the Development United Party (PPP) said both Muhaimin and Masykur Musa embracing each other on the sidelines of the PMII's alumni national meeting had a positive sign of reconciliation.

He added the IKAPMII would not interfere too much with the PKB's internal conflict. "Actually I want to take part. But we are aware it is the PKB's internal problem."

In the meantime General Secretary of the IKAPMII, Effendy Choirie said the alumni organization was such an umbrella to gather former activists of the PMII that have now involved in any profession and political parties. "Their goal is clear to strengthen NU." (rif)
