Indonesia hosts Conference of ‘Asia-Pacific’ Quran Memorizer

Placed at the biggest Masjid (mosque) in Southeast Asia, Masjid Istiqlal, Conference of Asia-Pacific Quran Memorizer is to be held from today (07/5/2010) until May 10th, 2010.
Hundreds of Quran Memorizers from nine Asia-Pacific countries like Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Australia, China, and Indonesia will be taking part in the event.r />
Two other countries from outter Asia-Pacific will also attend the event; they are from Morocco and Saudi Arabia.
Indonesia’s news agency, Antara, reported that the conference will be concerned with the discussion on the “Roles of Huffaz (Quran Memorizer) in society” with hopes to map and embolden the position of Muslim scholars amongst people.
“Those memorizing Quran are usually those of Muslim scholars and ustadz and such positions bears significant role and contribution for the ummah (people),” said Ustadz Abdul Hasib, the steering committee.
The event, he further, is expected to meet five other goals such as enhancing the role of Quran memorizers in developing society, empowering Quranic deeds, and managing, planning, controlling, and evaluating Quran memorizing schools. (dar)
