The Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama Students Association (IPNU) has called on beginner-voters amounted to 30-40 percent not to abstain from voting (golput).
Chairman of the IPNU Idy Muzayyad said that using voting rights in any democratization process could be considered as an act of good citizenship. "So do not abstain from voting," he told NU Online here on Monday (4/8).<>
Idy said the beginner-voters having no more political understanding should properly be directed to take part in democratization process. So it's questionable if the beginner-voters can not use their voting rights correctly in their first political experience.
Idy argued the quality of democracy and the 2009 general election was subject to political attitude of the beginner-voters. As for him the golput is very irrelevant to be campaigned especially to beginner-voters' circle for it is very personal and the beginner-voters constitute political segments whose no such political maturity.
He said the beginner-voters were in need of more enlightened approach to politics. "Let the beginner-voters determine their choice and let political parties and politicians take approaches elegantly," Idy said. (rif)
