Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, Sunday on a two-day visit to hold talks with senior UAE officials.
President Ahmadinejad is visiting the UAE upon an official invitation of the UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahayan.<>
He was officially welcomed at Abu Dhabi airport by al-Nahayan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, UAE prime minister and ruler of Dubai.
The welcoming ceremony was unprecedented in the history of the UAE.
During the ceremony, national anthems of the two countries were played and Ahmadinejad and al-Nahayan reviewed a guard of honor.
The Iranian and the UAE presidents are to hold official talks on bilateral relations and leading regional and international developments within the next few hours.
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Mohammad Jahromi are accompanying the Iranian president in his visit.
Ahmadinejad's current visit is important as no trip has ever been made by any Iranian official at such a high level since the establishment of the UAE government. (irn/dar)
