Jakarta overall winner Of Quran reading contest in Banten

The Jakarta contingent in the 22nd national Quran Reading contest (MTQ) taking place here from June 17 to 24, 2008 emerged as overall winner, while the Banten contingent, the host, became runner-up and followed by West Java.
Prof Dr Roem Rowi, chairman of the jury of the 22nd MTQ at the closing ceremony of the MTQ on Tuesday (24/6) evening said, the declaration of the winners was based on decree no.03/kep.hk/MTQ/22/2008.<>
As reported by Antara, Jakarta`s contingent was leading in several branches of the MTQ among others at children`s level, memorizing the Al-Quran and its translation and conversation in Arabic.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla at the closing ceremony of the MTQ presented the President`s Cup to the Jakarta contingent. Religious affairs minister Maftuh Basyuni also attended the closing function.
The MTQ, with 3,186 Quranic readers from the 33 provinces across the country participating, was officially opened by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Tusday (June 17) evening.
The President in his address among others requested all religious figures and ulemas to help settle conflicts among religious adherents.
It is a mistake to allow people to violate religious rulings, the president said, adding that violence must be avoided in solving problems. (dar)
