Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Board of Jambi Qadir Husein said here Tuesday (1/4) that as a religious organization, NU was expected not to be used as such medium to pursue political interests. Rather, he said, NU should focus more on people services.
He made the statement following the involvement of NU cadres in any elections. He then called on Nahdliyin (NU followers) to deal with political education through any activities.<>
According to Qadir NU's young cadres like Ansor Youth Movement (GP Ansor) should pay more attention to the importance of political education by holding both regionally and nationally any supporting activities such as training, seminar, workshop and so on.
Qadir who is also Chief of Regional Office of the Department of Religious Affairs in Jambi said so far NU had organizationally been determined not to be trapped into politics though many NU cadres have involved themselves in political parties. (mkf)
