Kalla's team accuses SBY' team of character assassination

Jusuf Kalla's presidential election campaign team head, incumbent Industrial Minister Fahmi Idris, says that the Mallarangeng brothers from the presidential success team of incumbent President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) have been trying to "assassinate" Kalla with racist statements.
"I hope Hatta Rajasa [SBY's success team head] will take a firm action on the Mallarangengs. Their attitudes must be controlled,especially when it comes to the ideology of Bhineka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) and Pancasila," he told The Jakarta Post via a text message in Jakarta on Friday.<>
Choel, Rizal and Andi Mallarangeng are three prominent figures in SBY's team.
Andi recently caught in camera saying that "it is not yet the time for Bugis ethnic people to lead the nation" during a campaign rally in predominantly Bugis city of Makassar.
The Mallarangengs themselves are also Bugis.
Achmad Mubarok, deputy chairman of SBY's Democratic Party, told The Post that Andi was being misinterpreted.
"His statement was a depiction of his own sentiments as a Bugis. He personally felt, that as a Bugis, it is not his time yet to lead the nation," he said.
"Andi has also apologized if his statement offended anybody," he added. (dar)
