An earthquake measuring 5.1 on Richter scale jolted Bengkulu province at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, but it did not affect the national Koran recital contest (MTQ) which was closed by Vice President Boediono later in the day.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency located the epicenter of the quake in Indian Ocean at 130 kilometers southwest off Bintuhan town at a depth of 15 kilometers beneath the seabed. The agency did not issue a tsunami warning, Antara news agency reported.
