Religious Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali has supported a fatwa issued by Islamic organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) calling infotainment that presented gossip haram, or forbidden, under Islamic law.
“I personally agree with NU’s stance,” he said after meeting with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to discuss Christmas celebration preparations.<>
He added that shows delving into the seedy side of people’s personal lives should be forbidden.
“I believe every religion forbids us from broadcasting the weaknesses of other people’s private lives for public consumption,” he was quoted as saying by news portal kompas.com. (dar)
