Nahdliyin told to increase their intellectual capacity in all aspects

In today's modern era, the need of education is in high demand. At this point, Nahdliyin (NU followers) having commonly focused on social and religious sciences are expected to be able to increase their intellectual capacity in all aspects. Admitted or not, NU is in need of many experts in all disciplines.

"In the opening or the constitution (qanun asasi) of NU, it's clearly explained that NU must actively take part in all social life aspects. For that reason, the Nahdliyin should be capable of addressing all fields required," chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Abas Mu'in said as receiving a visit of Pasuruan's NU followers at NU Online here Thursday (12/3).<>

Abas said the rocketing number of Nahdliyin in regard with the social and religious sciences would raise negative impacts because they may not reach self-actualization.

"In turn they prefer to be politicians because it is easier, he said, adding that such condition would possibly trigger disputes among them.

Abbas said that there had now been a number of Nahdliyin in parliament and mandated to accommodate such pro-NU policies. But all this, he added, should be followed up so that the NU cadres would be capable of dominating executive posts as the executor of government's policies.

"There should be NU followers in each government's department to be able to monitor pro-people policies," he said, adding that the people were mostly NU followers. (mkf)
