Minister of Communication and information, Muhammad Nuh said that the writing tradition within Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) community and Islamic boarding schools should be able to make use of information technology.
Nuh said information technology at present and in the future was an important think to preaching especially in disseminating Islamic teachings of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah as adopted by the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization.<>
On the sidelines of a seminar taking up issues on exploring and developing potential of writing for Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) at the Malang's Al Hikam Islamic boarding school over the weekend, Nuh said the tradition could be considered as such a mirror of both dynamics and creativity of a nation. NU Online's Harisudin reported.
“If the writing tradition of a nation is low, it is a must that its intellectual dynamics is also low, the ex-rector of Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya said, adding that “if the writing tradition of the nation was high, it means its intellectual dynamics is also high”.
Nuh was of view that the tradition could reflect the mindset of a nation. “If its mindset is negative, its writings are also negative. On the contrary, if its mindset is positive, its writings would be positive,” he said before participants attending the seminar held by the Lajnah Ta'lif wan Nasyr of East Java's NU Regional Board.
