NU-based parties told to support presidential hopefuls from NU

Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) H Ahmad Bagdja expected NU-based political parties to nominate presidential and vice presidential hopefuls from NU in the 2009 election ahead.
Bagdja was of view that those supporting such NU-based parties as the National Awakening Party (PKB), the United Development Party (PPP) and the Ulema National Awakening Party (PKNU) were mostly from NU.<>
Bagdja said here Thursday that it's time for the three parties to unite and be such a power in playing their political roles especially in regard with the national leadership succession.
As for him, any effort to address their need of unity in supporting presidential and vice presidential candidates was not so difficult because the leaders of the parties are from the same culture. (mkf)
