General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU)
KH Hasyim Muzadi said East Java should ideally be led by a governor whose NU background because most people living in the province are Nahdliyin (NU followers).
Hasyim made the statement before some 72 participants of the Regional Work Meeting of the East Java's Ma'arif NU at the headquarters of East Java's NU Regional board, Jln. Masjid Al Akbar, Surabaya on Tuesday (12/8).<>
"It is very appropriate if East Java inhabited predominantly by Nahdliyin will be led by a governor from NU," Hasyim said.
Present at the occasion were top officials of the East Java's Ma'rif NU such as Abdul Haris and Istibsjaroh.
Abdul Haris said that it was reasonable enough if the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization supports the province governor candidate from NU.
