Indonesia's largest Islamic organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), has been concerned over current political and humanitarian crisis in Libya.
"We are very concerned over the situation there and we hope it would be a lesson for us so that a similar incident would not happen in Indonesia," General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Said Aqil Siroj said here on Thursday.<<>br />
Regarding the death toll he said it could happen because there was a communication deadlock between the government and the people.
"We hope leadership in Arabs would be improved after the crisis," he said.
Said Aqil said the Indonesian nation was grateful because political awareness of its leaders had been far better than those in Arab countries where most of the leaders wished to stay in power until they die.
"The good relations between the government and the people in Indonesia must be maintained so that no incident like in Arab would happen on us," he said.
Secretary General of PBNU, Iqbal Sullam, meanwhile said it would be better if the Arab League stepped in to help solve the crisis in Libya.
He deplored the involvement of foreign legions in the crisis which was one of the reasons why a lot of people had been killed. (dar)
