NU expects Ahmadiyah not to redisseminate its teachings

General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul ULama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi gave comment following the Monday's issuance of  a joint ministerial decree (SKB) outlawing the activities of the Ahmadiyah Islamic sect.

According to Hasyim the government's decision to issue the decree was really on the right track. He then called on Ahmadiyah followers to obey the decree signed by the Attorney General, Home Affairs Minister, and Religious Affairs Minister.<>

The PBNU also expected the Ahmadiyah followers to develop and preach its teachings and called on the government to anticipate any emerging activities both advocating and disseminating the teaching that acknowledges Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as the messenger after Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

In terms of the disbandment of Ahmadiyah, the Nahdliyin-based organization let fully the government handle the much-awaited disbandment.

"The PBNU just wants Ahmadiyah not to develop its teachings. Concerning its disbandment or disbanded, that is government's authority," Hasyim told reporteres at the PBNU's headquarters, Jalan Kramat Raya 164 Jakarta on Wednesday 911/6).

At the meantime Hasyim was accompanied by general secretary Endang Turmudi, leaders of autonomous bodies and institutions of the PBNU.

Hasyim added that the government should reject any violent action against the sect followers, facilities and property as well.

"The government should not only reject both developing and developed Ahmadiyah teachings, but it should also reject violence whatever its form against the Ahmadiyah," the President of World Conference of Religions for Peace said. (rif)
