Chairman of the Indonesia's largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) KH Said Aqil Siradj (Kang Said) said that as a religion of peace, Islam did not support terrorism.
"Islam greatly respects the sacredness of life, property and dignity of human," Kang Said said as giving an Idul Adha sermon (khutbah) in Masjid Raya, Jakarta Islamic Center, Koja, North Jakarta on Monday.
<>Before thousands of worshippers gathering for Idul Adha prayer, he reiterated that any act of terrorism in the name of religion was the same as that stains the sacredness of the religion itself.
On the occassion, Kang said stressed the importance of taking an example from Rasulullah (PBUH) in establishing the first modern nation-state in the world, namely Madina in which there was no discrimination between Muslims in Madina and those were from Mecca regardless of wealth or social status.
The lecturer at the postgraduate school of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University called on religious adherents especially Muslims in the country to keep maintaining in unity and harmony within the life of the nation.
Kang Said was of of view that Islam called on all Muslims not to fight against and kill anybody else regardless of his or her ethnic and religion.
In this regard, he mentioned three things that should be taken into account, namely Islamic brotherhood (ukhuwah Islamiyah), the nation's brotherhood (persaudaraan sebangsa), and humanity brotherhood (ukhuwah insaniyah). (dar)
