NU-Muhammadiyah cooperation needed to deal with radicalism

Ex-chief of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Abdullah Mahmud Hendropriyono said The cooperation between NU and Muhammadiyah was needed to fight against radicalism.
"For terrorism is a movement following an extreme course," Hendropriyono said on the sidelines of a meeting taking up issues terrorism at the Muhammadiyah office in Jakarta on Wednesday (2/9).<>
As for him, such efforts to prevent Muslim community from extreme teachings could be taken through the active role played by NU and Muhammdiyah through the education channel either in schools or in religious gatherings.
He considered the method would be expectedly capable of giving true understanding to young generation about the importance of religious teachings.
Hendropriyono expected the extreme line of thought to soon be tackled and those supporting the extreme line of thought could be prevented from doing terrorism acts.
"We need to mobilize the cadres to clarify our manhaj (method) so that it can give enlightenment to modernity," he said. (rif)
