The Nahdlatul Ulema (NU) is planning to organize a world ulema meeting in Jakarta next July, its chairman said on Monday.
"The meeting will be held on July 19," KH Achmad Hasyim Muzadi said when attending the NU’s 82nd anniversary in Samarinda, East Kalimantan.<>
He said some 82 ulemas would attend the meeting that will, among others discuss the position of the Moslem in the world who are now being torn by wars, conflicts or colonialism.
"See (what is happening) in Afghanistan, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Kosovo and Sudan," Kompas daily quoted him as saying. (ant)
