Indonesia’s largest Muslim organization (NU) has rejected any foreign intervention in Libyan political uproar despite resolution of the United Nations.
“The Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) has strongly condemned and fought against foreign intervention for any reason, moreover in the form of military actions,” general chairman of PBNU KH Said Aqil Siradj told NU Online here Monday.r />
Siradj said military actions launched by Western countries would apparently result in violence, infrastructure destructions and bloody conflicts on such a scale.
”The military actions will have fatal consequences for Libya as that occurred in such countries as Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraq,” he said, adding that such actions could possibly disturb the sovereignty of the countries.
PBNU has called for brilliant efforts aimed at ending political crisis in Libya, Bahrain and (other) Middle East countries through political and diplomatic channels and putting aside any military action.
PBNU has also called on Islamic countries grouped under the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), including the government of RI to soon take joint steps actively take part in dealing with political crisis in the countries.
PBNU, at this point, has appreciated political aspirations in Libya, Yemen, and Bahrain calling on political changes. The political changes, Siradj said, were the manifestation of awareness of political, social, and economic rights of citizens having so far been ignored. (bil)
