Supreme Council of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Mustofa Bisri (Gus Mus) said that the tradition of NU which has commonly been led by government officials should ideally be avoided.
Gus Mus made the statements following the Jakarta's newly re-elected chairman of NU, Fauzi Bowo, who is also governor of Jakarta.<>
As reported, at an annual meeting of the NU Regional Board of Jakarta recently, Fauzi Bowo was re-elected as chairman of the PWNU to his second period of time at the Sukolilo's Hajj Dormitory.
Gus Mus said that it's time for NU to be "controlled" by those fully willing to give their best service and contribute to the Indonesia's largest Muslim organization, instead of making the organization as a sideline work.
"Tradition that the Nahdliyin (NU followers) prefer to be led by (government) officials should be avoided," Gus Mus told NU Online, adding that there was no guarantee they could be effective in NU.
The leader of the Rembang's Roudhotut Thalibien said that the Nahdliyin should take into account of the importance of "traditioning the effectiveness of work in their leadership" instead of handing over the leadership to others because of their position in the government. (mkf)
