Despite being the largest Islamic organization in the world, Nahdlatul Ulama has still been marginalized, especially in dealing with economic conditions of its followers
"This is our weak point that must be recognized," deputy general chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) As'ad Said Ali said on the sidelines of a gathering to commemorate the 23rd year after the death of KH Syamsuriyah in Jagalempeni village, Wanasari district Brebes regency on Sunday (16 / 5). />
As'ad said that there had been some 60 percent of Nahdliyin (NU followers) who earn below Rp 1 million per month.
"While those who earn 5 million per month are approximately amounted to one percent," he said.
For that reason, As'ad added, NU would purposefully focus on programs in addressing the need for economic empowerment of people. NU, at this point, would involve the government and other parties in engaging in the economic empowerment.
Deputy Chief of the Indonesian State Intelligence Agency said that to run all the programs there should be first of all efforts of dealing with potentials to make greater use all capitals by mapping out the need of Nahdliyin in particular and people in general.
The efforts, he said, could be undertaken by establishing syaria people's loan banks, cooperatives (syirkah) and many other economic units.
In addition, As'ad said, the Nahdliyin should also be capable of mastering science and technology especially for NU young generations. (Was)
