NU's board members showing support Ahmadiyah should be warned

NU's board members or officials showing support the Islamic sect Jamaah Ahmadiyah should be warned. As reported the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization has formerly asserted that Ahmadiyah is deviant and out of the pale of Islam.

The statement was made by chairman of the NU Branch Board of Jember, East Java, KH Muhyiddin Abdusshomad here on Tuesday (13/5).<>

According to Abdusshomad what taken by NU must be defended to avoid any emerging public misunderstandings dealing with its stand.

He also supported East Java's NU Regional Board (PWNU) whose courage to warn Deputy Chairman of the Advisory Council of the PWNU, Imam Ghozali Rais related to his "OK" with a number of circles rejecting Ahmadiyah ban in the country.

"Because the NU's stand has been clear that Ahmadiyah is out of the pale of Islam. He should ideally follow the measure clearly taken by NU," the caretaker of Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren) of Nurul Islam Jember.

East Java's PWNU has formerly warned Ghozali for his stand was not appropriate with NU's stand. The PWNU  also sent last Thursday (8/5) a letter to Surabaya's PCNU to warn Ghozali.

Ghozali was one of ulema through out Java meeting the spokesperson of the House of Representatives (DPR) Agung Laksono in the House office in Jakarta on last Wednesday (7/4).

In the meantime Ghozali along with scores of ulema called on the DPR to revoke the government's plan preparing to issue a Joint Decree Letter (SKB) that was drafted by three ministers to demand Ahmadiyah disband.

Ghozali was even of view that the demand to disband Ahmadiyah was a violation of human rights. "If the government do not protect Ahmadiyah, it has failed to protect its citizens." (sbh/rif)
