Officials proven to have cut BLT funds will be punished

Social Affairs Minister Bachtiar Chamsyah said that the government would take firm action against officials of the village administration officials proven to have slashed direct assistance fund (BLT) for poor families.
"I call for immediate action against the offenders," the minister said before opening a national workshop in Jakarta, on Thursday evening.<>
Officials of village and district administrations had no reason to cut or impose a levy from the BLT recipients.
"Of the Rp5,500 operational cost provided by PT Pos, there is a budget for BLT officials, neighborhood chiefs, village heads and subdistrict heads. At least Rp500,000 is allocated for a subdistrict head," he said.
On the occasion the minister asked the public to immediately report the offenders to the police. (ant)
