One-meter high flood water inundated several parts of Bojonegoro town in East Java on Sunday after the dike preventing flood water from Bengawan Solo River collapsed.
The flood water inundated house buildings along a number of roads such as Jl. Rajekwesi, Jl. MH Thamrin and Jl Jaksa Agung Soeprapto to the height of 50-60 cm overnight, an Antara journalist observed.<>
Residents broke down the dike on Saturday to allow the flood water inundating their residence to recede. However, the action had caused flood water to inundate all parts of the town.
The flooding forced the massive evacuation of residents living in such areas as Karangpacar, Kadipaten Banjarjo, and Kepatihan.
The evacuaees were carried in a number of trucks and other vehicles to higher grounds.
Meanwhile, around 11,000 residents of Sukorejo village in the town stayed alert overnight as flood water began to inundate their village at 03.00 a.m. on Sunday. (ant/dar)
