Police to act firmly if anti-Bush demonstrators break law

Police will not prohibit people from staging rallies in connection with US President George W Bush’s visit to Bogor on November 20 but act firmly if demonstrators break the law, Bogor city police chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Nurwindianto said here on Thursday.
"So long as they don’t break the law, they can go ahead. But if they break the law, we will take firm action," he said.
He called on all community leaders in Bogor to come to the police in case they had problems and not to be easily provoked by rumors.
The police would take resolute action against any party trying to make bombing threats ahead of President Bush’s arrival, he added.
People from various quarters have been staging anti-Bush demonstrations in Bogor over the past few days or ahead of the US leader’s arrival in the city.
President Bush is scheduled to meet President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the Bogor presidential palace during a six-hour visit in Indonesia. (ant/dar)
