President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono called on the younger generation in the country to reject violence and help build a peace-loving civilization.
The President said a great civilization was marked by its faith in peaceful ways to settle problems, rather than resort to violence.<>
"I wish that you will be part of a great civilization. I hope the next generation will be more civilized, peace-loving and will avoid violence," he told national flag bearers Saturday.
Yudhoyono’s statement came on the heels of a massive crackdown on a terror group responsible for the two hotel bombings in Jakarta last month, many of whom were young recruits.
The flag bearing team includes 33 students from across the country. They will hoist the national flag in a ceremony at the State Palace to mark the 64th anniversary of Indonesian independence on Monday. (dar)
