The Indonesian Rectors Forum (FRI) called on President-elect Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono Saturday to pick a non-partisan person for the post of education minister in the lineup of his cabinet for the 2009-2014 period.
The next education minister should be able to restructure the national education system comprehensively, the forum said in a press statement.<>
The forum expressed hope that the president-elect would emphasize the principles of professionalism in forming the lineup of the next cabinet by taking into account the competence, commitment and track record of each minister.
The next cabinet should not merely be based on a tug of political interests that would make the next government unsound and unclean, it said.
In the statement signed by FRI Chairman Prof Dr Edy Suandi Hamid M.Ec, the forum also asked the Indonesian leaders and political elites to take policies which are public interest-oriented. (ant)
