Sheikh Tantawi backs Iran's peaceful nuclear program

Sheikh Muhammed Sayed Tantawi, the grand Sheikh of al-Azhar in a statement on Sunday voiced support for Iran's peaceful nuclear activities.
In the statement, the grand Sheikh underlined that it is the legitimate right of Iran to benefit from nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.<>
"We support any useful programs which secures the national and religious interests of Islamic countries," he was quoted by IRNA as saying.
Islamic countries should maintain their combat readiness and remain vigilant in dealing with threats of the enemies, Sheikh Tantawi said. (dar)
