Six candidates for Aceh legislative elections fail in Qur`an reading test

Until the third day of the Qur`an reading tests participated in by 185 candidates for regional legislative memberships in Tapaktuan capital of South Aceh district, six have failed in the reading proficiency test.
Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD)`s Independent Election Commission (KIP) conducted the Qur`an reading tests starting September 7 for ten consecutive days, Suhaimi Shalihin, the local KIP chairman said here Wednesday.<>
Failure of the six candidates in the Quran proficiency reading test has been reported to organizers of each political party, so that organizers of the political parties can seek other candidates to replace them before September 15 as the last day of the test, Suhaimi said.
The Muslim holy book reading test which should be participated in by a total of 1,368 candidates was scheduled from September 7 to 15, 2008 as a requirement stipulated by the provincial regulation (Qanun) No.3/2008 about local political parties. (ant)
