Tanah Datar's PCNU pledges to seed Aswaja teachings in Minangkabau

The Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Board (PCNU) of Tanah Datar, West Sumatera pledged to constantly seed the teachings of what called as Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah (Aswaja) in the region being considered as a center of culture in Minangkabau.

The newly chairman of the Tanah Datar's PCNU Ihsan Tuanku Bagindo made the remarks as speaking on the sidelines of its conference at the Batusangkar's Yoherma Hotel, Tanah Datar, West Sumatera on Wednesday (2/7).<>

Ihsam said that so far the teachings of Aswaja having been developed by Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) should all of the time be seeded for promoting religious attitudes based on the spirit of unity within diversity.

He cited the narrow and rigid understanding on religious tenets should be avoided. As for him, the understanding would in turn create disharmony among religious adherents.

“The narrow understanding and insight (in religious life) would result in intolerant attitude toward emerging diversity. So inter-religion cooperation would be difficult to realize,” he told NU Online here on Thursday (3/7).

Ihsan said, the PCNU “would always consolidate organization, activate, and empower all potential of Nahdliyin (NU followers) in Minangkabau in general and in Tanah datar in particular.”

He expected there would be a strategic cooperation between the PCNU and local administration in developing all potentials of Nahdliyin especially in Tanah Datar. For him, the potential had yet to manage properly so the attention from all circles were really in need.

“That is why we need attention from the PWNU, PBNU (central board of NU), and related authorities as well,” he said, adding if the cooperation was conducted it would be possible for the PCNU to be both mirror and example for people” in managing all potential of theirs.
